Professor and researcher Yvan Boutin honoured by Acfas

Lévis, November 21, 2025 - Professor at Cégep de Lévis and researcher at TransBIOTech, Yvan Boutin receives this year's Prix Acfas Denise-Barbeau for his outstanding contribution in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and mathematics, and health sciences-biomedical dimensions. Created in 2014 and sponsored by the Fédération des cégeps and the Association des collèges privés du Québec, this prize is awarded each year to a researcher in the college network who stands out for the excellence and influence of his or her work and actions.  

D. in Immunology, Dr. Boutin has been successfully combining teaching and applied research for over 26 years. He is a member of the faculty of the Laboratory Techniques program, which includes two specializations, Biotechnology and Analytical Chemistry. At the same time, he conducts research as head of the Cell Biology and Microbiology sector at TransBIOTech, one of the Cégep de Lévis's two Centres collégiaux de transfert de technologie (CCTT).  

"We are very proud to have Mr. Boutin on our team, a researcher of excellence whose passion stimulates our students and enables them not only to appropriate the most recent scientific advances, but also to actively participate in them. This award is fully deserved," explains Philippe Aubé, General Manager of Cégep de Lévis.  

A center recognized at home and abroad

Mr. Boutin played a key role in the creation and growth of TransBIOTech, which is now recognized both in Quebec and internationally. He has collaborated on hundreds of applied research projects carried out in partnership with companies in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, food and cosmetics sectors. Among his most important contributions is his collaborative work with the Institut sur la nutrition et les aliments fonctionnels (INAF).

"Thanks to his work in cell biology, immunology and microbiology, Mr. Boutin has played a key role in advancing biomedical innovations that are now available to patients, pets and the general public," says Luce Tremblay, TransBIOTech's Acting General Manager.

Over the years, Mr. Boutin has also distinguished himself by his rigorous and benevolent supervision of numerous trainees. Today, many of the technicians working in TransBIOTech's laboratories are former students or trainees of Cégep de Lévis.

CCTTs support innovation in companies and organizations by carrying out applied research. They facilitate knowledge transfer to help companies and organizations develop new products or improve their practices.
